(으)로, by and towards

Pattern

[Noun] 로 / 으로

(으)로 marks the means of doing something: 지하철로 'by subway', 한국어로 'in Korean'. It also marks a direction, 'towards': 오른쪽으로 가세요. After a vowel or ㄹ it is 로, after any other consonant 으로.

The mistake to avoid

The ㄹ rule catches everyone. It is 지하철로, never 지하철으로.
