에서, where something happens

Pattern

[Place] 에서 [action verb]

에서 marks the place where an action takes place: 카페에서 커피를 마셔요. With a starting point it also means 'from': 영국에서 왔어요. In speech 여기에서 and 거기에서 shorten to 여기서 and 거기서.

The mistake to avoid

Do not use 에서 with 있어요. 학교에 있어요 is 'I am at school', but 학교에서 공부해요 is 'I study at school'.
